Frequently Asked Questions

Medical Requirements

Scuba diving requires a minimum level of health and fitness. Chronic health conditions, certain medications and/or recent surgery may require you to get written approval from a physician before diving. Avoid disappointment, download and review the Diver Medical Form to ensure you won’t need a physician’s approval to dive before enrolling in a scuba course. Instructors, divemasters and dive shop staff are not physicians and should not be asked for medical advice; only medical professionals can give medical clearance to dive. If you (or your physician) have questions about medical fitness to dive, contact the experts at Divers Alert Network (DAN).

The minimum age is 10-years old.

Divers 10- to 14-years-old earn a Junior Open Water Diver certification.

Junior Diver (10-11): Restricted to diving with a parent, guardian or PADI Professional to 40 feet maximum depth.

Junior Diver (12-14): Must dive with an adult certified diver.

Junior Open Water Divers automatically become Open Water Divers at age 15. Any replacement certification card or eCard purchased the day after the diver’s 15th birthday will automatically show an Open Water Diver (NOT Jr. Open Water Diver) certification.

Each course has a specific number of dives required for certification. Some courses require both confined and open water dives, some courses only require one or the other, and some courses don’t require dives.

Each course has a specific maximum depth. Depth will also depend on dive site, age and comfortability. The maximum depth allowed during the Open Water Scuba Diver Course is 60 ft.

Most courses lend themselves to add-ons.

Each course varies and is broken down into the following three segments:

Knowledge Development (Classroom or eLearning)

Confined Water Training (Swimming Pool or open water with pool-like conditions)

Open Water Training (Ocean, Lake, River, etc)

In an effort to accommodate , we offer several scheduling formats to include private lessons. Timing can vary based on student progress and needs during training.
